OPEN AIR CONCERT WITH THE CLASSICS OF ROCK

THE  TRADE UNION’S SUPER-CONCERT IN PIAZZA SAN GIOVANNI ON MAY 1ST

Every year hundreds of thousands of music lovers descend on the central Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano for the free Labour Day concert. Organised, since 1990, by Italy’s main Trade Unions, the concert kicks off during the afternoon and runs until about midnight. As always, this year the lineup of guests is prevalently from the Italian music scene with names like Caparezza, Almanegretta, Marina Rei and Sud Sound System standing out.

The international band chosen to take to the stage in 2012 is Young The Giant from California, best known for its hit single “Cough Syrup”. Livening up the event Italian actor Francesco Pannofino and tv personality Virginia Raffaele present the artists and interact on stage. As well as the live performances, the programme foresees a series of tributes to legendary bands of the history of rock, from the Beatles to Radiohead.

A new stage composed of three different moving structures will also host the Orchestra Roma Sinfonietta conducted by Mauro Pagani breathing life into famous songs accompanied by especially realized videoclips. The event is broadcast live by the Italian Broadcasting Corporation and thousands of fans camp on the lawns in front of the Basilica the night before the concert to assure a good new. The morning in the capital with the segway and afternoon all to sing.
